Meet Jack and Laurie
Laurie: What’s the point of working all your life if you don’t enjoy it?
Jack: My TR6 is bright red, shiny red, as shiny as it gets. Most little cars have that pvvvvv sound mine has that rrrrrrr sound.
Laurie: You reach a point where, if you've planned, then you can have a little red car.
Jack: Love it.
Jack & Laurie, Radio DJs
Jack: Good morning I’m Jack Peets. Thirteen after eight and all ……
Jack: Laurie and I are in radio, I do a morning show and what would you call what….
Laurie:I do a mid-day show, a news program.
Jack: Lots of laughs lots of fun.
Laurie:Never a dull moment.
Laurie:I love going to antique stores and shopping, and that's what I like to do.
Jack: I like to play golf.
Laurie:Yes, yes you do.
Jack & Laurie: Laughing
Jack & Laurie were managing their finances themselves
Jack: We felt like we were spending everything we had and then some.
Laurie: It's not that we were in trouble but we certainly weren't getting ahead, we were spinning our wheels.
Marianne Dhami, RBC Financial Planner
Marianne: If I were to describe what I do for clients it would be to give them a roadmap to achieve whatever goals that they have.
Jack: I thought that when she was coming to see us for the first time that she would just set us up with RRSPs and get the investment end of things going I didn't realize it was a much bigger picture.
Marianne helped them
> assess their needs
> organize their accounts
> top up life insurance
> open an RESP
Jack: Before Marianne, I didn't even think about retirement. I thought about Vivian and her education. But my own retirement I never thought about it. Didn't even really give it a second thought at all.
Marianne designed a financial plan with flexible retirement options
Marianne: We understand that Laurie would like to retire a lot sooner then Jack, so, now the focus on her plan is how do we achieve that.
Laurie: I can honestly say that the day Marianne says to me, you can do it now, I will retire so fast it'll make your head spin.
Laurie: Actually retirement is the wrong word because really it should be transition. I, I mean I'll still be doing something.
Jack: I don't think I'll ever retire, officially, I hope not. But in our business often times retirement is not your choice.
Jack & Laurie are now prepared for their future
Marianne: After the plan now, I find them very relaxed, very confident in their spending because they can afford to do it.
Laurie: If you follow the plan, which we have done, things work out. If we hadn't hooked up with Marianne we would not be where we are right now.
Jack: Well I don't know that we wouldn't be…
Laurie: You wouldn't have your little red TR6.
Jack: That's, that's true.
Laurie: That’s true
Jack: Ok.
Laurie: That's very true.
