An Overview of the Operations Division

Operations is the functional core of RBC Capital Markets’ trading activities, ensuring the firm delivers services and execution that meet its reputation for having the stability, performance and strength to move forward. The Operations division is responsible for post-execution trade processing and maintaining controls around the entire trade life cycle. Operations professionals handle proprietary and customer transactions of both primary and secondary trading in listed and over-the-counter options, commodities, equity and fixed income securities, and structured derivatives. Trading businesses are supported out of offices in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. Maintaining our standing as one of the world’s premier financial institutions in the face of product diversity and global coverage necessitates strategic collaboration among many talented individuals. Opportunities are available to work closely with team-oriented professionals across the globe to oversee the processing of complex transactions, facilitate new business / product offerings, assist in operational risk management, conduct profitability analysis and participate in process re-engineering initiatives.

The Analyst Program in Operations

The Analyst Program is a 2-year rotational program offering an opportunity to play a vital and influential role in delivering the division’s business management capabilities to the wider firm and in driving the firm’s continued growth while maintaining its reputation. You will have the opportunity to work closely with leaders from all areas of Operations, and gain the experience necessary to succeed in the Operations environment through various assignments, practical training and coaching. The program provides a tailored approach to career development based on the interests of our hires and the growing needs of our business.

Areas of exposure include:

  • Back Office/ Trade Life Cycle
  • Trade Support
  • Performance Management
  • Operations Engineering

As an Operations Analyst in this innovative program at RBC Capital Markets, you will rotate through four six-month assignments. The first year will provide you with an understanding of how the business works, while the second year provide you with the opportunity to be involve in various projects and head-office functions. Your role will include:

  • Understanding and facilitating various trade-life cycle processes.
  • Liaising directly with Front Office business groups to research and deliver operational solutions, while maintaining superior client service.
  • Utilizing various Operations systems and applications
  • Participating in change initiatives to improve business process management capabilities.

  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills
