We asked a group of young RBCers to share their experiences working for one of Canada’s top employers; the relationships and culture of the organization, the personal growth and the rewards of their first career experience. Here is what they shared.
Jeremy Wong – My first day at RBC, I was very nervous.
Cassandra Cook – That feeling of your stomach just flipping.
Justin Ramdeen – Still sweating like I was just going to the interview for the first time.
Chris Lalonde – My first day at RBC was actually my first experience in any corporate environment and it’s completely not what I expected at all.
Justin – It wasn’t as overwhelming as I thought it would be, especially being a big organization. Everyone was nice, genuine.
Liliana Patino – Well my first day at RBC was very exciting because I was making like a switch in my career.
Cassandra – One thing that I always try to tell people is: you write your career. My name is Cassandra Cook, I am Associate Manager, Brand Marketing.
Liliana – My name is Liliana Patino and I’m an Account Manager at RBC.
Jeremy – My name is Jeremy Wong and I’m a Senior Technical Systems Analyst.
Chris – My name’s Chris Lalonde and I’m a summer student working at RBC.
Justin – My name is Justin Ramdeen and I’m a Technology and Operations Associate.
Cassandra – How I started here at RBC was actually kind of interesting: I started while I was still in school.
Chris – A good internship at a great place is really important to advance yourself and your personal development.
Jeremy – I interned at RBC for about eight months. It’s a big bonus that I actually had because I got to see the team members and create relationships with the team.
Cassandra – It’s so important to have that person around you that’s going to help mentor you into that next stage of your life.
Chris – As an intern I actually feel that my work’s really valued by RBC. They really take my ideas into consideration and I think that’s really cool. So for me it’s pretty easy to get up in the morning.
Jeremy – The work that I do really benefits others at RBC. The managers, my fellow co-workers, they’re all just amazing people and they’re very encouraging.
Chris – There’s a real culture of collaboration; I’ve had the chance to meet a lot of great people, building relationships that will probably last long past my internship.
Liliana – It really matters who you work with and I think my colleagues are awesome. We go for a drink once in a while, we hang out. These are my friends.
Chris – The one thing I learned really quickly was how much all the employees pride the community involvement aspect.
Cassandra – I always knew that I wanted to get into some sort of philanthropic role. What I loved about being in the corporate sector was: I was able to have an influence and be a part of that influence.
Liliana – You need to feel proud of being part of something. Knowing that RBC does something good in the community, is giving you that sense of pride as an employee.
Justin – RBC was the right choice for me. From gaining a lot of insight, a lot of experience and some of that feeling, it’s unlike any other experience I’ve ever had before, because I’m able to carry that forward to my next role and be able to deliver value that I didn’t have before.
