We are Canada’s largest bank as to market capitalization and assets. Whether you’re looking to open a personal bank account, protect your family with insurance or grow your money through investments, we can help you with just about every financial need you have while you’re in Canada.
Our history starts in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1864, when we were known as the Merchants’ Bank. In 1901, as we expanded into the rest of Canada, we changed our name to the Royal Bank of Canada. We opened our first international branch in Havana, Cuba in 1899 and by 1925, had 121 branches in North and South America, London, Paris and Barcelona. Today, you’ll find us under the name “RBC”. That’s the name we use to represent all our companies. Our banking business uses the name RBC Royal Bank®, and all our other businesses’ names start with RBC® as well.
In February 2009, Global Finance magazine rated RBC as one of the top 10 “World’s Safest Banks.” — and today we are around the world, helping clients with all their financial needs, often in the language of their choice.
We’re as multi–cultural as Canada itself. As one of the leading employers in the country, our workforce includes a large number of immigrants. This allows us to service our clients in many different languages. In fact, in some parts of Canada, even our banking machines speak different languages. Learn more about careers at RBC.
We also believe in doing more than just providing financial services. We believe in giving back to your community, too. We sponsor a large number of cultural and amateur sporting events and support many causes.
Once you’ve arrived in Canada, we’d like to help you get settled in. So come visit us! For more information about the services we offer, please visit www.rbc.com.
