Business

To immigrate to Canada as a business applicant, you must make an investment in Canada, or own and manage a business in Canada.

The federal government divides business applicants into three classes:

  • Investors
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Self-employed persons

You will find a description of each on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.

No matter which type of business applicant you are, Global Private Banking, the International Wealth Management Division of Royal Bank of Canada, can help you move your assets to Canada.

We also have a comprehensive range of services to help you manage your assets on an ongoing basis. These include the following:

Private banking — For high-level expertise to maximize your assets in Canada and abroad.
Personal banking — Everything you need for the day-to-day management of your money.
Business banking — All the financial services you need to help your business grow, such as business bank accounts, investment services, financing options, payroll services and more.
Credit cards — Everyday convenience for your short-term borrowing needs.
Home loans — A range of flexible mortgage options when you buy your first home in Canada.
Borrowing — Lending products, such as car loans and lines of credit, to help you achieve your lifestyle goals.
Investing — A full range of investing options, including a full-service brokerage, discretionary investment management and do-it-yourself online investing.
Insurance — To protect you, your family and your vehicles, as well as personal and business property.

Immigration Trust

As a business applicant, you may be able to benefit from establishing an immigration trust. Under current Canadian tax law, an immigration trust generally is exempt from Canadian income tax on all its income, including capital gains, for up to five years.

As a result, it may help you reduce taxes and preserve wealth. Generally, where the value of the trust property exceeds US$1,000,000, the tax savings can be expected to exceed the costs of the offshore structure.

We can review your financial situation to determine whether this approach would benefit you. If so, we can further assist you by:

  • Setting up and administering an international trust tailored to your needs through our network of international specialists and Global Private Banking locations worldwide
  • Working on your behalf with your legal, tax, accounting and/or immigration advisors
  • Providing a comprehensive range of international services to complement your international trust, such as investment, custody and banking and credit services.
