RBC recognized as one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People for 2014

TORONTO, April 28, 2014 -  Canada’s continued prosperity depends on the contributions of our youth. Yet too many young people find that embarking on a career journey with a degree or diploma in hand, but without job experience, can be like trying to unlock a door with a key that doesn’t fit. RBC believes employers are an important part of the solution to this challenge and is committed to providing first career experiences and growth opportunities to many young Canadians.

We’re proud that RBC has been selected as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People by Mediacorp Canada Inc. in its annual survey of Canadian businesses.

Canada’s Top Employers for Young People is an editorial project that recognizes the nation’s leaders when it comes to attracting and retaining younger workers. The competition reviews a wide variety of initiatives, from mentorship to training and advancement opportunities, important to younger Canadians starting their first careers.

“One of Canada’s greatest resources is the potential of our youth,” said Zabeen Hirji, chief human resources officer, RBC. “RBC’s broader commitment to Canadian youth and a stronger Canada begins with the programs we have developed to provide first career experiences to our nation’s young people and our encouragement of learning, mentorship and networking opportunities to assist them. We are proud of making a difference and knowing that our contribution matters.”

RBC was recognized by MediaCorp for our many initiatives including:

  • Our Next Great Innovator Challenge, an annual innovation competition for post-secondary students
  • Our Graduate Leadership Program, designed to attract young professionals with strong leadership capabilities
  • Our New Graduate Programs, providing meaningful learning opportunities that help develop workplace skills needed to succeed in today’s economy
  • Our Finance Management Development Program, focused on helping finance specialists reach their full potential
  • Our Graduate Level Programs, designed to help MBA graduates fast track their careers

In late 2013, our newest youth employment program was introduced - RBC Career Launch is a year-long paid internship program aimed at breaking the ‘no experience, no job’ cycle for 100 recent graduates. Overall, RBC hires more than 2,400 young people annually into positions and we provide more than 900 internship, co-op and summer experiences.
