One of the easiest ways to make a difference to the environment is to reduce the amount of paper you use and receive. When it comes to banking, you can switch from paper to electronic statements. By viewing your statements online and by using Online and Telephone Banking more frequently to view your accounts, pay bills and make other transactions, you'll be saving not only trees, water, and energy, but also reducing emissions.
Do your part by switching to eStatements. Today, RBC offers eStatements for the following Canadian products: Visa, Direct Investing, Dominion Securities, Home Equity, Royal Credit Line, Day-to-Day Chequing/Savings and E-savings accounts. You can also sign up now to receive your first Business Deposit Account eStatement in September 2008.
We’re Making a Difference Today
Together with our clients, we have made great strides in reducing the amount of paper we use. Since January 2006, over 3 million RBC accounts have been switched from paper statements to electronic statements. The resulting paper savings amount to approximately 105 million sheets or 480 metric tonnes of paper. Using the Environmental Defense Fund Paper Calculator, these paper savings are equivalent to approximately 12,700 trees!
As a further benefit to the environment, we also donated $5 to the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) each time an RBC client turned off their paper statement option for an account and switched to an electronic statement between September 2007 and January 2008. We’re thrilled to report that we reached our goal of donating $1 million dollars on our clients’ behalf, which will help protect more than 100 natural properties this year.
The money we’ve raised together will go towards supporting NCC's direct action of protecting great natural places across the country. The funds raised will also help NCC ensure that nature's places will be there, in a healthy and productive state for future generations, by allowing NCC to expand its land stewardship program of engaging local communities across the country in the care of the land.
